About the Author

Tronél Hellberg has a passion for Theory of Music which inspired her to obtain a Teacher’s Licentiate in Theory of Music from UNISA in 2001.  G-sential was founded in 2007 by Tronél Hellberg. The name was inspired by the fact that music theory is essential for reading and understanding music. G-sential is coined from the G clef (one of the first concepts learnt in music theory) and “essential”.

Apart from being passionate about writing music theory books, Tronél also teaches all theory grades (Grade 1 to Licentiate), speaks at conferences and presents refresher courses for music teachers. In addition, she is a research associate of the University of the Free State and an external supervisor for the University of Pretoria.

She obtained an MMus with distinction from the University of the Free State in 2013 and a BMus (Hons) from the University of Pretoria in 2011, also with distinction. She is a final year PhD student in Music at the University of the Free State.

In 2017, she broadened her field of expertise and is now also a certified master transformation life coach. One of her niches is that she works with musicians who feel stuck, struggle with performance anxiety, suffer from depression (or other negative emotions), and have limiting beliefs about themselves such as "I'm not good enough".
