First edition, first impression, November 2019

This book fills an important gap in South Africa’s music literature in terms of its indigenous African music (IAM). It has been authored by Vusabantu Ngema et al. who, as African people with an indigenous African background, are intimately familiar with how music forms an inseparably interwoven part of culture, traditions, education, way of living and religion. The book therefore provides accurate first-hand information concerning African musical instruments, harmony, genres and musical structures to mention a few aspects covered by this book. An important aim of this book is to provide a textbook for teaching the Indigenous African Music stream prescribed for Grade 10-12 CAPS. Something which has not been available until now.
