About Us

Tronél Hellberg has a passion for Theory of Music which inspired her to obtain a Teacher’s Licentiate in Theory of Music from UNISA in 2001.

Believe it or not, there was a time I struggled with theory, failed tests and ended up in the head of music’s office! From my own experience, I understand the make-or-break impact a teacher can have, the value of figuring out things on your own, and how this can shift you from frustration to empowerment. This is what sparked my fascination with theory and inspired me to write books that systematically explain concepts in a easy-to-understand way.

Apart from being passionate about writing music theory books, I teach all theory grades (Grade 1 to Licentiate), speak at conferences and present refresher courses for music teachers.

I obtained a MMus with distinction from the University of the Free State in 2013 and a BMus (Hons) from the University of Pretoria in 2011, also with distinction. In 2018, I completed my PhD at the University of the Free State with the title of my thesis being “Musicians’ sensory patterns in relation to their primary musical instrument”.

In 2017, I broadened my field of expertise and became a master transformation life coach and founder of Coach me to Grow where I help people to re-align their lives with their values, break through barriers, gain clarity, and pursue career, relationships, and well-being goals.

From 2021-2023, I served as curriculum developer, programme coordinator and lecturer for the PGCE Music programme for STADIO Higher Education. This was an exciting project since it drew on more than 25 years of being in music education, as well as my experience as an examiner, author, researcher and life coach.

While I emigrated to New Zealand at the beginning of 2024, it’s business as usual for the online shop and distribution of G-sential’s books in SA. The only thing that has changed, is my number! While I prefer email, you’re welcome to call/message me on WhatsApp, bearing in mind the time difference.
